HEALTH INSURANCE: Sharp rise in costs causes premiums to rise in 2023

After four years of stability, health insurance premiums will increase again in 2023. The average premium will reach 334.70 francs, a 6.6 percent increase from 2022. Since 2018, the increase has averaged 1.5 percent, compared with 3.8 percent in the previous five-year period (2013-2018). In 2021, costs increased by 4.5 percent and the trend continued during the first half of 2022. Health care cost containment remains a priority for the Federal Council.

In 2023, the average monthly premium will amount to 334.70 francs, an increase of 6.6 percent over 2022. The average premium of adults (397.20 francs) and that of young adults (279.90 francs) will rise by 6.6 percent and 6.3 percent, respectively, compared with this year. That of minors will increase by 5.5 percent to 105 francs. Health insurance premiums reflect health care costs.
