Swiss Government Against Compulsory Insurance for Dental Care.

The State Council has expressed a position against the people's initiative to introduce mandatory dental care insurance. The initiative, submitted in 2015, proposed a cantonal insurance system financed through contributions from employees, employers and the canton. However, the State Council believes that the current system, based on individual responsibility, is effective and argues that compulsory insurance would be economically unsustainable, with estimated costs of up to 150 million francs for Ticino.

The government points out that the current model has led to significant improvements in dental health through prevention and school prophylaxis programs. It also notes that dental care costs are stable and economically fragile groups already benefit from reimbursements. Mandatory insurance would require a large administrative apparatus and place an excessive burden on employers, employees and cantonal finances.

For these reasons, the State Council urges Parliament to reject the people's initiative, believing that it is not appropriate to submit an indirect counter-proposal.
